Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has heaped praise on Kevin de Bruyne, who has enjoyed a superb season on a personal level with Manchester City. The Belgium international endured a frustrating 2018/2019 campaign with injuries, but he has been able to make amends during the current campaign with numerous goalscoring contributions.
Tielemans has played alongside his compatriot for the national side on a number of occasions and hailed the Belgian as an ‘unbelievable player’, he told: “He’s an unbelievable player. It’s pretty obvious what he accomplished at this club and I’m not trying to compare myself to that. What’s important for me now is winning games and having an impact for my team. I’m really happy I can do that as of recent and my style is always going to continue to be that very attacking-minded and creative kind of player. I’m happy I can help the team any way I can.”
Manchester City have experienced a tough season in the Premier League and they surrendered their league title last month with seven games to spare. Since then, they have been eliminated in the FA Cup by Arsenal at the semi-final stage and they have nothing to play for the final game of the Premier League season before the Champions League resumes.
De Bruyne, however, will be determined to make a mark on the final matchday, considering he is just one assist shy of matching Thierry Henry’s Premier League assist record of 20. The Cityzens are scheduled to host already relegated Norwich City at home and there is a good chance that De Bruyne may even surpass Henry’s feat and create a record of his own.
Meanwhile, the Cityzens will resume their Champions League campaign next month. They are scheduled to face Real Madrid in the second leg of the round of 16 stage on August 7. The club have a 2-1 advantage after the opening leg on the road, but the tie is far from over with Los Blancos in peak form. The Spanish giants recently beat Barcelona to the league title with 10 wins on the bounce.
