Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans has named compatriot Kevin de Bruyne as the best midfielder in the Premier League. De Bruyne has built his reputation as one of the most consistent players in the English top-flight and he has been in superb form this term with nine goals and 16 assists from 27 league games.
He is on his way to potentially breaking the Premier League assist record (20) held by Thierry Henry and Tielemans has no doubts regarding his countryman’s quality, he told The Athletic: “I think the best in the Premier League is De Bruyne. He stands out. He is the complete midfielder. He is physical and runs a lot. Technically, he keeps it very, very easy. Tactically, he is very good as well. He’s got everything.”
De Bruyne had a frustrating 2018/19 campaign where he spent most of the season in the treatment room, but he has managed to return in flying colours. Despite his goalscoring contributions, the Cityzens have fallen well short of the Premier League title this season and they are currently 22 points behind Liverpool with nine games to play.
It is only a matter of time before the Reds win their maiden Premier League title but there is still plenty to play for the Mancunian giants. The club are already through to the FA Cup quarter-final and they should be favourites to go all the way to win the trophy. Meanwhile, they are also alive in the Champions League and they could potentially end the season with a treble, given they have already won the League Cup.
The Cityzens recently resumed their Premier League season with a comfortable 3-0 win over Arsenal. They are scheduled to host Burnley during their next encounter. The Clarets have succumbed to defeats in each of the previous four meetings against the Cityzens, scoring just one goal in the process.
