Former Gunner Thomas Vermaelen is reported could move away from Catalan giant Barcelona this summer. Arsenal have been linked to the defender as they require more depth at the back and since the player has struggled since his move to the Nou Camp.
The Belgian player since his move has not been able to establish himself at Barca. He faced a difficult time just before his move from the club as he was down with injuries. However reports say the player is ready to make another appearance in the English Premier League and would most likely consider a return to Emirates ahead of the other options that are available.
Aside the Gunners, West Ham and Liverpool have been reported to be interested in acquiring the services of the player this summer. The 30-year old centre back was a key member of the squad prior to his move and was even captain briefly. There are doubts if the player could make an integral part of the squad but he is sure to improve the options available as Arsenal have a number of engagements this forthcoming season.
Arsenal have been mentioned as a possible place the player might end up with given the history of the club to accept former players back. Coach Arsene Wenger allowed the re-signing of former players like Sol Campbell, Thierry Henry, Matthieu Flamini for a second time at the club but Arsenal are yet to make an official comment on the matter.
Former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Kloppp has been linked to the player following injuries to Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho ahead of the new campaign. The injury pushed Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip to the fore, with Vermaelen as the planned left-sided cover. The player still has a three year deal running at Barca so the Reds coach is still looking at decent centre back in the Bundesliga/
